The public symposium "Rethinking the Built Environment in the African Context: Ethics, Methods and Interdisciplinarity" is curated through four panels, all with an objective to discuss the Built Environment in the context of Africa, with a focus on improving what is already built and on growing the assets that communities already have within a sustainable framework of participation, social justice, and non-extraction. It comprises interdisciplinary collaboration between ethically-minded professionals who develop new ways of learning and teaching that are grounded in practices and methodologies developed in and for Africa.
This symposium is part of the 2023 Mobile Lab Egypt public programme and takes place on 16 September, 10:00-18:00 (GMT+3) at Salah al-Din Citadel in Cairo, Egypt. The programme is developed in collaboration with African Architecture Matters, Megawra—Built Environment Collective, and Tahayyuz (an alliance formed by Megawra, 10 Tooba, and Mansour for Architecture and Conservation).
