Film Screening in collaboration with Maqamāt, a program by A Kiss in the Desert and Zawya
Thursday, 2 October 2025 |Cinema Zawya | 7:00 pm
The screening centers film practice as an exploratory tool for engaging the urban experience, treating the moving image as a mode of research. Through curated selections and post-screening discussions, the program explores how filmmakers navigate urban space and how the city, in turn, is revealed, shaped, and reimagined through the cinematic lens.
The program's namesake is the Maqamāt, a medieval concise literary format, with recurring characters adapting different roles in each Maqāmah like a short film.
This month’s program is a special collaboration with BIAS-AME and Megawra as part of the Sightlines public program. The program explores how filmmakers navigate urban space and how the city, in turn, is revealed, shaped, and reimagined through the cinematic lens.
The Maqamāt program includes three films sharing the theme, “Sightlines.”
All films are screened with Arabic/English subtitles.
The screening is on Thursday, October 2nd, at 7 pm.
